JOHANNESBURG: New Mamelodi Sundowns signing Lebohang Maboe has revealed he is in dreamland following his move from Maritzburg United to the Chloorkop side.
Maboe inked a 5-year contract with the Brazilians on Friday and his new coach Pitso Mosimane wasted no time in throwing him into the wolves after he made his debut as a second-half substitute against Kaizer Chiefs in their first Absa Premiership match of the 2018/19 season which resulted in a 1-1 draw.
“I am really excited about this deal. It’s a dream come true to actually come and play for such a big team, not just in South Africa but in Africa. I am really humbled to be here. I had a chat with my dad and my business manager and we felt that Sundowns is the right team.”
“I stand a good chance of getting a move to overseas from Sundowns. Sundowns play in the Caf Champions League and that’s where all these overseas teams scouted the players who were here before me. I am looking to follow in their footsteps. Hopefully, in the coming years I will get a deal to go overseas,” said Maboe on Sundowns’ official website.
The 23-year-old former Mbombela United winger added that playing at Downs is a lot different than the football he has previously played. He also mentioned that he is looking forward to the challenge as he believes working with one of the most successful coaches in the country will help him thrive.
“Sundowns plays a very attractive brand of football. It’s not like where I am from where it’s transition and counter-pressing. The coach is one of the most successful coaches in South Africa. I am looking forward to working with him. I am looking forward to the challenge,” he added.
The youngster will be hoping he can continue where he left off in the 2017/18 season where in his stellar performances earned him the Nedbank Cup’s player of the tournament and most promising player accolades at the PSL awards.
