JOHANNESBURG: Baroka FC and Kaizer Chiefs are set to renew their rivalry on Tuesday night at New Peter Mokaba Stadium, kick off is scheduled 19h30pm.
Baroka FC is the team who have never short of confidence, with lofty goals and ambitions they set a bar high, but they often come unstuck. The Limpopo outfit, the first season after promotion saw them in second from the bottom but they stayed up after winning pool season Play-Offs. Last season they were amongst the early season leaders before sliding down to ending 14th place.
Now in their third season in the big time, another improvement is what demanded. Bakgakga start of the new season was a bit of mix pack, they began with a loss to AmaZulu before beating Cape Town City although with a close observation shows that the Citizens unlucky to have walked away with a defeat.
Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs couldn’t have asked for the toughest start of the season, the opening two league games putting them against the last two Champions of South Africa, while in the MTN 8 where drawn against Nedbank Cup winners.
Amakhosi just picked up one point in their games against Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits, the MTN 8 quarter-final against Free State Stars gave their fans something to smile about, the passing was crisp, the movement was perfect and they scored Three times in what is their best performance of the season.
Now focus shifts to league proceedings the room for improvement. Coach Giovanni Solinas has pleaded for the time but also praised his players’ effort against El la Koto. He is about to oversee his first league win as coach of Kaizer Chiefs.
The last time when these two clubs come across last season, Baroka claimed a 2-1 victory at FNB Stadium, while Chiefs return the favour at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in the reverse winning the by the same scoreline. Will be it the trend again this time out?
