CAPE TOWN: ANCYL frontrunner, Reggie Nkabinde has been given a boost on the condition that he supports NEC Member, Sifiso Mtsweni for deputy president.

This is according to the statement issued by the African National Congress (ANC) youth league (YL) Southern Cape region on Monday. ANCYL Southern Cape regional executive committee (REC) held its meeting last week to assess the state of the region.

“ANCYL national conference is loading and our Point of Departure is our own Cde Sifiso Tso John Mtsweni. We have made some pronouncements but they yielded no good results at all, people became arrogant and too regional however we are confident to say that the current TG [Treasurer-General] and incoming President of the ANCYL Cde Reggie Nkabinde has been engaged and he is fully on board hence as a Region we will support Comrade Reggie Nkabinde to become the president of the ANCYL on a basis that he supports our own Candidate,” said the statement.

Nkabinde is vying to become the ANCYL president and Mtsweni is contesting to become the deputy president. The current treasurer-general of the youth league will face ANCYL provincial secretary in KwaZulu-Natal, Thanduxolo Sabela, and NEC member, Ndumiso Mukako, who are also contesting for the same position.

The region also seeks to restore organizational discipline among its members ahead of the national conference.

“Organizational discipline is fundamental and we won’t compromise it by allowing anyone to define themselves outside the collective, if any of this bad tendency prevails then we won’t have any Choice but to be decisive as a structure. We are clear, sober, confident and resolute,” the statement added.

The 26th national conference will take place in September from the 6 – 11.
