JOHANNESBURG: The Soweto giants have signed the Brazilian defender Caio Marcelo Pinheiro da Silva from Nova Iguaçu.
The Rio De Janeiro born star has been reported to have impressed Pirates delegation to Brazil and was signed at the last hours of the closing window. In a statement issued by the club yesterday, it confirmed the signing of the defender.
“Orlando Pirates Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Caio Marcelo from Nova Iguaçu Football Club,” read the statement on the club’s website.
Marcelo started training with Pirates during the pre-season and he did enough to convince coach Micho Sredojevic and Bucs to offer him a contract.
“The signing of the Brazilian defender was concluded on the final day of the transfer window on Friday last week. Caio who was spotted in Pirates’ recent Project X trip in Brazil, will join his new teammates this week after impressing technical staff during the preseason break,” conclude the statement.
