Students Calls University To Increase Security After Ngubo’s Murder

EMPANGENI: On Sunday afternoon, the suspect stabbed the deceased over cold water from the fridge.

The University of Zululand has expressed great shock after two students were involved in a fight that claimed the life of another student, Sazi Ngubo from Poshepston in the Southern of KwaZulu-Natal province. 

The students were living together at the student’s apartment in Siphetho Residents. On Sunday afternoon the suspect stabbed the deceased over cold water from the fridge. The suspect whom his name won’t be mentioned to the community was also beaten by a mob after he admitted to having killed Ngubo. The suspect is in hospital under police guard.

Meanwhile, a police officer Constable CK Mkhwanazi was wounded in a mob while trying to calm the students who were beating the suspect. Mkhwanazi is recovering at the hospital. 

The Director of Communication for Students Ngcina Nhlekwa Mdluli said: “at the moment it is hard for them to tell the community what exactly happened they are praying for the suspect who is in the hospital to get better and tell the court what took place.” 

The secretary-general of the students, Mduduzi Mnqayi said: “they are saddened that the student passed away.”

Mnqayi added that as “the student representative they urged the university to increase more security in the school premises in order to prevent such incidents.”

According to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbhele, “the suspect is under police guard, he will be questioned at the moment he’s stable.”

A third-year student, Mlondi Hadebe said he is fearing for his life after this incident which took place in the premises of the university. He urged the university to increase more security inside and more sports activities.
