JOHANNESBURG: The Italian coach has been full of praise for his marquee signing since the start of the 2018/19 season, even bowing to the Zimbabwean star after substituting him late into a victory last month.
Kaizer Chiefs’ hard work on the field of play paid off when the duo of coach Giovanni Solinas and Khama Billiat were named the Absa Premiership Coach and Player of the Month respectively.
The awards follow the team’s great performances that saw Amakhosi collect maximum points against Cape Town City FC, Free State Stars, and AmaZulu FC in September.
“I am happy for the team I work with – all credit must go to them,” said Solinas. “Kaizer Chiefs are about winning trophies and we are working hard to achieve that goal.”
On receiving his Player of the Month award, the in-form 28-year-old told the media, “I’m grateful to have a coach like him, but most importantly, it’s about the team. I don’t see it as something special, it’s always like that. I’m grateful for the love that he has for me, and I love him too, just like everyone. I love the relationship that I have with him.
Meanwhile, on the prospect of a much-talked-about European switch, Billiat said, “Every player wants to play in Europe, but it can only happen when you’re doing good, I don’t think that I’ve done enough. I always want to do better and improve my game.”
Attacking midfielder, who has already won a number of Man of the Match awards this season, believes that winning these two PSL monthly awards bodes well for the team. “It means the team is doing well and all that is needed for the momentum to be carried throughout the season.”
Solinas and Billiat will each receive R5 000 in cash from Absa.
