JOHANNESBURG: Ramaphosa is expected to announce changes to the National Executive on Thursday afternoon at the Union Buildings, Pretoria, at 15h00.

In a statement issued on Thursday morning that presidency said: “these changes have been occasioned by the passing away in September 2018 of the Minister of Environmental Affairs, Ms Edna Molewa, and the more recent resignation of the Minister of Home Affairs, Mr Malusi Gigaba.”

Gigaba resigned from his post following mounting pressure for President Cyril Ramaphosa to boot him out of the cabinet. He subsequently resigned in parliament after he stepped down as a Cabinet minister.

Transport Minister Blade Nzimande will take over as the acting home affairs minister.

Environmental affairs minister Edna Molewa has died after being hospitalised on September 8‚ and tourism minister Derek Hanekom has been acting in her role since then.

There are two cabinet ministerial posts that are vacant that need to be filled and the Minister in the Presidency and the Public Enterprise still has no deputy ministers.
